GHI Episode Filmed at Puerto Rican National Park

The National Park Service Digest is reporting that a recent episode of Ghost Hunters was filmed at Castillo San Cristobal and Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, a national park in San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, it is likely that the article is mistaken and should refer to Ghost Hunters International, considering that Scott Tepperman (of the GHI team) posted the message below on Twitter on December 15th:
Stopped raining in Puerto Rico! Well...it doesn't matter. Not going anywhere tonight. Prob just roam the halls of the hotel... ; )
This is one of several tweets from the team that confirms that they (GHI) was in Puerto Rico, not the TAPS team. Visitors to the park have seen strange apparitions and heard unexplained sounds. The episode featuring the national park is expected to air in March.
The filming was done by the crew mostly at dark during the evening. using specialized filming equipment which included infrared and thermal imaging cameras, sensitive audio digital recording devices, electromagnetic field detectors and laser lamps to audio-visually capture the legendary ghosts.
Eric López, the park’s historian, was interviewed by the program producers and shared the best known ghost stories about the fortifications. While the park actually does not claim to have ghost stories, one famous story is that of San Cristóbal’s “Garita del Diablo,” or the “Devil’s sentry box” in English. The Garita del Diablo is a small outpost near the waters edge and isolated from the main fortification of San Cristobal. According to the legend, soldiers sent there on guard duty mysteriously disappeared. It is told the devil devoured their souls and bodies only leaving their uniforms and weapons behind.
Stories of sightings or strange noises have also been told by visitors, such as those who have encountered 18th century dressed soldiers disappearing through the solid walls. Some park employees have also shared hearing unusual sounds and experiencing questionable sightings.
New episodes of Ghost Hunters International return on Wednesday, January 5th.

Kris & Barry Talk About The New Season of GHI

With the season premiere of Ghost Hunters International airing in the not-too-distant future, Kris Williams & Barry FitzGerald recently did an interview with several journalists. SciFi and TV Talk has posted some of that conversation on their blog, in which Kris & Barry discuss the premiere episode (Hamlet's Castle), the changes to the team, Ouija boards, and the affects spirit can have on modern technology. In the excerpt below, Kris tells us what it was like transferring to the International team.
Kris, what's it been like to transfer from the TAPS [The Atlantic Paranormal Society] team in the US to GHI with Barry?
KW - You know, honestly, I was a little worried about going over just because I wasn’t sure how people would take to me jumping over there from Ghost Hunters. I'd worked with Barry several times and considered him a good friend, so that wasn't scary at all, and I do know a lot of the other team members over there, including Joe Chin, who I'd also worked with before. Again, though, I wasn't sure what peoples' reaction would be, but honestly we all just clicked. I was really surprised by it. We all get along quite well together and we all work really well together. It's funny, too, because we've all noticed that each group is kind of like each other's opposites. We all balance each other out really well, which has been kind of interesting to watch.

The other thing that I liked about going over to GHI with Barry was that he's just been at this for so long that I just felt like it would give me an opportunity to learn something new. I was just looking forward to that, and, of course, to the history. I was looking forward to experiencing different cultures and seeing if the haunts overseas were any different than those in the States. The history is just so wild over there, and every time I start work on a new case I'm learning something different, which I really enjoy.
New episodes of Ghost Hunters International will premiere on January 5, 2011.

Ghost Hunters Investigate the USS Olympia w/ New Van & Cameras

Blogger Bryan Reesman (who has previously made posts about the SyFy holiday party and wrote the feature on Steve Gonsalves that appeared in Inked Magazine, has just made a new blog post about TAPS' investigation aboard the USS Olympia in October. Aside from interviewing Steve, Bryan also took quite a few photos from the investigation, including one featuring the new TAPS van. That investigation was different for the team because it was the first time that the investigators (Jason, Grant, Amy, Adam, Steve & Dave) were to be filmed via a camera attached to them with a harness. This meant that the camera crew did not have to follow them into each location and could monitor them remotely. The episode featuring the ship will air as part of Season 7 next year.

All images below are property of Bryan Reesman. You can see all of the photos (there are plenty more) and read about the new cameras here.

Steve Gonsalves Feature & Interview in Inked Magazine

The latest issue of Inked Magazine includes several pages (mostly photos) on TAPS tech specialist Steve Gonsalves. In the interview with him, which was conducted aboard the USS Olympia during an investigation, Steve talks about how his interest in the paranormal developed from a young age, his early years of ghost hunting, joining the TAPS team (pre-Ghost Hunters), the difficulty of getting tattoos due to his unpredictable schedule, and much more.
Steve Gonsalves has been obsessed with horror movies and the supernatural since the age of 6, when his mother first showed him The Entity (a movie about a spectral rapist-not exactly kiddie fare). "My mom would cover my eyes: 'You can't watch this part, ' " recalls Gonsalves. "I'd get all angry, and I remember at the end of the movie still thinking it was make-believe because she would tell me that it was just a movie. Then I saw the credits: Based on true events. It was crazy. So that scared me, thinking that stuff could be real, but then it made me want to go and find it, see what it is, and figure it out. Ever since that minute I've been hooked."

Return on The Living Dead, Re-Animator, John Carpenter's The Thing, Evil Dead II, and An American Werewolf in London. To read Steve's comments on why he loves each of those films, read the entire interview here.

As anyone who has been following the TAPS team on Twitter can tell you, Amy, Jason, Adam, & Grant were recently in New York to attend SyFy's Christmas Week Cocktail Party at the Rockefeller Center. Two photos of them at the party can be seen here on the same blog.

TAPS Van & GH Crew Arrive at Hotel Bentley in Louisiana

TheTownTalk.com is reporting that Ghost Hunters crew, as well as one black TAPS van have arrived at the historic Hotel Bentley in Alexandria, Louisiana. The crew is preparing for an eight day shoot and began prepping the area yesterday evening. TAPS will also be investigating nearby at the Diamond Grill restaurant and the Irish pub Finnegans Wake. Unfortunately for fans, the local police have set up barricades around the location (the hotel is currently closed and undergoing restoration), so it may be difficult for those in the area to catch a glimpse of the team. Claims of activity at the Irish pub include noises from above and wine glasses flying from shelves and falling on the floor.
Crew members from "Ghost Hunters" started setting up their gear Thursday afternoon for filming in the Hotel Bentley, the Diamond Grill restaurant and the Irish pub Finnegans Wake on Third Street for multiple days of shooting.

...
Alexandria Police Chief Roger Tully said he made sure he was downtown on Thursday.
"I'm a Syfy Channel fan. I'm also a 'Ghost Hunters' fan," Tully said. He later started moving barricades himself as the film crew rolled through in shiny black SUVs and one tall black van with TAPS labels front, side and back.

Get Your Copy of TAPS ParaMagazine Signed by Kris Williams

Ghost Hunters International's newest member, Kris Williams, announced via her blog today that she will be signing 100 copies of the November/December issue of TAPS ParaMagzine (which includes a prominent feature about her) in December. She is offering fans who have a copy of the magazine the opportunity to get their copies signed by sending her their info after December 18th (do not send her anything now). She will then choose 100 e-mails from those sent and those lucky individuals will get their magazines signed and sent back to them.  Make sure to keep visiting her blog (http://www.kriswilliamsblog.com/) over the next few weeks to read her latest updates regarding this contest.

I leave for my next run with GHI this Thursday and I will be home Dec 18th. When I get home I will get a temporary PO BOX that a friend of mine will help me keep track of. I figured I would wait till I got back since I know a lot of you have not received the mag yet and in some cases it's not in your stores yet. When I am back I will have those of you with that issue of the Paramag send me your info (do not send until then) and I will pick 100 people out of those emails. Those 100 people will get an email with the PO BOX address to send their issue to. If you want your mag back, it MUST come with a self addressed stamped envelope so that I can return it to you. The only other rule is that I will only sign the Nov/Dec issue, anything else will be sent back unsigned (this is the part my friends keeping track of).

'Home is Where the Heart Is' Sneak Peek

It wouldn't be a week without it, so here it is! A sneak peek of the next episode of Ghost Hunters, "Home is Where the Heart Is". In this episode, TAPS investigates the winning location from Syfy’s Great American Ghost Hunt.

Live Event News: Big GHI Changes, Waverly Hills Revisit Next Season

Last night's Ghost Hunters Live! not only was a six hour investigation, but it also was an event that put weeks of speculation about Kris Williams to rest. Before the team started investigating, Josh Gates announced that Kris would be transferring to the Ghost Hunters International team. Later, it was also announced that Barry FitzGerald (who was at the event) would be the new team leader, since Robb will be leaving the team. The new GHI team will be made up of Barry, Kris, Paul, Scott, Susan, Joe, and Britt (is some episodes. He has been fired from the franchise as of October. However, he had already started filming with the show.)

If you weren't able to watch the live show, you can still follow along by visiting all the team's twitter accounts (links on this page), the GHFansLive Twitter account, and the Ghost Hunters Twitter acount where they were posting photos from the event throughout the night. Throughout the night, SyFy had been conducting a poll asking fans what was their favorite past GH investigation. The results were announced at the end of the show, with a majority of them going to Waverly Hills Sanatorium. Since that location won, the TAPS team will return to investigate it in Season 7. The results from the Buffalo Central Terminal investigation will be shown on the November 10th episode of Ghost Hunters.

Amy Bruni Gives Ghost Hunting & Debunking Advice

With Halloween (and Ghost Hunters Live) just a few days away, DIY Life has posted a simple guide to ghost hunting, with some helpful advice from Amy Bruni. The article goes over several types of unexplained activity, tools that paranormal investigators use to document them, and completely normal explanations for what is going in. For example, Amy points out that a toilet flushing by itself could simply be a problem with your plumbing, not a ghost determined to send you a message.
What Would a Ghost Hunter Do? Cold and hot spots are some of the most common household irregularities for which ghost hunters are summoned, and they also seem to be one of the real trademarks of paranormal activity. But just because you've got cold feet or an, er...unusually hot seat, don't expect Bruni and her team to declare your house The Amityville Horror; you can be too quick with those haunting conclusions. "We've found many hot and cold spots that couldn't be traced to specific causes. But while they're strange, they alone aren't what Ghost Hunters classify as paranormal," she says.

Another Kris Williams Interview; Kris On Traveling, Eating, & Music

A recent slew of Kris Williams interviews are emerging online (another sign that something is about to happen involving her), the latest one has appeared on HauntJaunts.Net, a paranormal themed travel blog. Kris discusses the thing she cannot travel without (her iPod), her off camera experience with Dustin at Waverly Hills Sanatorium, her diet on the road, and her love of music.
HJ: What’s something you absolutely don’t travel without?

KW: One thing I never travel without is my iPod. Not only do I love music but it’s nice for downloading movies and is great for just about any travel situation. It’s perfect for flights and a long car ride. It’s amazing how music can keep you sane.

Lately another thing I have started to pick up is reading. I was never big on reading before. Over the summer a friend of mine gave me a book about Jim Morrison and before I knew it, I was picking up another one about him, then moved on to “The Alchemist” and now I’m onto some true crime books. With travel it’s all about finding things that you can put down and pick right back up whenever you have the time.
Keep reading the interview at Haunt Jaunts.

Kris Williams Talks GH Live, Ouija Boards, 'Paranormal Activity', & More

Kris Williams recently conducted an interview with the website Accidental Sexiness. The interview encompasses a wide variety of topics, including her thoughts on ouija boards and the movie Paranormal Activity (she hasn't seen it), working with the Real Housewives of Atlanta (she says that they took the work seriously and didn't freak out when they experienced activity), and the upcoming Ghost Hunters Live event.
Neal for AS: Did you see Paranormal Activity?
Kris: You know, I have no desire to see it and everyone asks me that. I do this every day for real so I don’t need to see the movies about it. It’s like, ‘I’m gonna go investigate an old fort tomorrow, why would I want to go see a movie about it?’ I’d rather be at the fort. Plus Hollywood makes things bigger and crazier and I’d be picking it apart.
Neal for AS: That makes sense. I never thought about it that way. One of the things they do in the movie is pull out a Ouija board to try and talk to the ghost. What do you think about ouija boards?

Kris: I’ve played with them when I was a kid. I think everybody is guilty of it. I had some crazy stuff come out of it. We played every day and it turned into a weird morbid thing, but it was fun. After using it for so long we started hearing things in our house, doors slamming, footsteps, and so forth. Whether it had anything to do with the board I have no idea. People always say you should mess with them, that you are opening yourself up to things.
I think there is some truth to that, I’m just not sure how much.
