GHI Episode Filmed at Puerto Rican National Park

The National Park Service Digest is reporting that a recent episode of Ghost Hunters was filmed at Castillo San Cristobal and Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, a national park in San Juan, Puerto Rico. However, it is likely that the article is mistaken and should refer to Ghost Hunters International, considering that Scott Tepperman (of the GHI team) posted the message below on Twitter on December 15th:
Stopped raining in Puerto Rico! Well...it doesn't matter. Not going anywhere tonight. Prob just roam the halls of the hotel... ; )
This is one of several tweets from the team that confirms that they (GHI) was in Puerto Rico, not the TAPS team. Visitors to the park have seen strange apparitions and heard unexplained sounds. The episode featuring the national park is expected to air in March.
The filming was done by the crew mostly at dark during the evening. using specialized filming equipment which included infrared and thermal imaging cameras, sensitive audio digital recording devices, electromagnetic field detectors and laser lamps to audio-visually capture the legendary ghosts.
Eric López, the park’s historian, was interviewed by the program producers and shared the best known ghost stories about the fortifications. While the park actually does not claim to have ghost stories, one famous story is that of San Cristóbal’s “Garita del Diablo,” or the “Devil’s sentry box” in English. The Garita del Diablo is a small outpost near the waters edge and isolated from the main fortification of San Cristobal. According to the legend, soldiers sent there on guard duty mysteriously disappeared. It is told the devil devoured their souls and bodies only leaving their uniforms and weapons behind.
Stories of sightings or strange noises have also been told by visitors, such as those who have encountered 18th century dressed soldiers disappearing through the solid walls. Some park employees have also shared hearing unusual sounds and experiencing questionable sightings.
New episodes of Ghost Hunters International return on Wednesday, January 5th.

Kris & Barry Talk About The New Season of GHI

With the season premiere of Ghost Hunters International airing in the not-too-distant future, Kris Williams & Barry FitzGerald recently did an interview with several journalists. SciFi and TV Talk has posted some of that conversation on their blog, in which Kris & Barry discuss the premiere episode (Hamlet's Castle), the changes to the team, Ouija boards, and the affects spirit can have on modern technology. In the excerpt below, Kris tells us what it was like transferring to the International team.
Kris, what's it been like to transfer from the TAPS [The Atlantic Paranormal Society] team in the US to GHI with Barry?
KW - You know, honestly, I was a little worried about going over just because I wasn’t sure how people would take to me jumping over there from Ghost Hunters. I'd worked with Barry several times and considered him a good friend, so that wasn't scary at all, and I do know a lot of the other team members over there, including Joe Chin, who I'd also worked with before. Again, though, I wasn't sure what peoples' reaction would be, but honestly we all just clicked. I was really surprised by it. We all get along quite well together and we all work really well together. It's funny, too, because we've all noticed that each group is kind of like each other's opposites. We all balance each other out really well, which has been kind of interesting to watch.

The other thing that I liked about going over to GHI with Barry was that he's just been at this for so long that I just felt like it would give me an opportunity to learn something new. I was just looking forward to that, and, of course, to the history. I was looking forward to experiencing different cultures and seeing if the haunts overseas were any different than those in the States. The history is just so wild over there, and every time I start work on a new case I'm learning something different, which I really enjoy.
New episodes of Ghost Hunters International will premiere on January 5, 2011.

Ghost Hunters Investigate the USS Olympia w/ New Van & Cameras

Blogger Bryan Reesman (who has previously made posts about the SyFy holiday party and wrote the feature on Steve Gonsalves that appeared in Inked Magazine, has just made a new blog post about TAPS' investigation aboard the USS Olympia in October. Aside from interviewing Steve, Bryan also took quite a few photos from the investigation, including one featuring the new TAPS van. That investigation was different for the team because it was the first time that the investigators (Jason, Grant, Amy, Adam, Steve & Dave) were to be filmed via a camera attached to them with a harness. This meant that the camera crew did not have to follow them into each location and could monitor them remotely. The episode featuring the ship will air as part of Season 7 next year.

All images below are property of Bryan Reesman. You can see all of the photos (there are plenty more) and read about the new cameras here.

Steve Gonsalves Feature & Interview in Inked Magazine

The latest issue of Inked Magazine includes several pages (mostly photos) on TAPS tech specialist Steve Gonsalves. In the interview with him, which was conducted aboard the USS Olympia during an investigation, Steve talks about how his interest in the paranormal developed from a young age, his early years of ghost hunting, joining the TAPS team (pre-Ghost Hunters), the difficulty of getting tattoos due to his unpredictable schedule, and much more.
Steve Gonsalves has been obsessed with horror movies and the supernatural since the age of 6, when his mother first showed him The Entity (a movie about a spectral rapist-not exactly kiddie fare). "My mom would cover my eyes: 'You can't watch this part, ' " recalls Gonsalves. "I'd get all angry, and I remember at the end of the movie still thinking it was make-believe because she would tell me that it was just a movie. Then I saw the credits: Based on true events. It was crazy. So that scared me, thinking that stuff could be real, but then it made me want to go and find it, see what it is, and figure it out. Ever since that minute I've been hooked."

Steve's Favorite Horror Movies & Photos from SyFy's Christmas Party

In a new interview with the pop culture blog Attention Deficit Delirium, TAPS tech manager Steve Gonsalves names five of his favorite horror movies. Which movies made Steve's top 5 list? Return on The Living Dead, Re-Animator, John Carpenter's The Thing, Evil Dead II, and An American Werewolf in London. To read Steve's comments on why he loves each of those films, read the entire interview here.

As anyone who has been following the TAPS team on Twitter can tell you, Amy, Jason, Adam, & Grant were recently in New York to attend SyFy's Christmas Week Cocktail Party at the Rockefeller Center. Two photos of them at the party can be seen here on the same blog.

TAPS Van & GH Crew Arrive at Hotel Bentley in Louisiana

TheTownTalk.com is reporting that Ghost Hunters crew, as well as one black TAPS van have arrived at the historic Hotel Bentley in Alexandria, Louisiana. The crew is preparing for an eight day shoot and began prepping the area yesterday evening. TAPS will also be investigating nearby at the Diamond Grill restaurant and the Irish pub Finnegans Wake. Unfortunately for fans, the local police have set up barricades around the location (the hotel is currently closed and undergoing restoration), so it may be difficult for those in the area to catch a glimpse of the team. Claims of activity at the Irish pub include noises from above and wine glasses flying from shelves and falling on the floor.
Crew members from "Ghost Hunters" started setting up their gear Thursday afternoon for filming in the Hotel Bentley, the Diamond Grill restaurant and the Irish pub Finnegans Wake on Third Street for multiple days of shooting.

...
Alexandria Police Chief Roger Tully said he made sure he was downtown on Thursday.
"I'm a Syfy Channel fan. I'm also a 'Ghost Hunters' fan," Tully said. He later started moving barricades himself as the film crew rolled through in shiny black SUVs and one tall black van with TAPS labels front, side and back.
